What AI Add-Ons Cost in Small Business Tools
Four tools, three pricing models for the same word. Slack bundles AI by tier, ClickUp sells it at $9 or $28 per user on top of the plan, Zoom sells a $20 ZoomMate seat with 2,200 credits, and Notion mixes an included agent with $10 per 1,000 credits. How to read each, as of October 2026.

The AI line on a small business tool's pricing page is new, and vendors have not agreed on how to charge for it. Some bundle it into plan tiers, some sell a per-user add-on, some meter it in credits, and some do all three at once. This note reads the pricing pages of Notion, Slack, ClickUp and Zoom, as published on October 10, 2026, names the model each uses, and shows what AI adds to the bill for a five-person team. Canva's pricing page could not be read on that date and is left out rather than guessed at.
Identify the model before you compare prices
Three models appear across the four pages. Bundled by tier: AI features are listed inside each plan and the upgrade path is the AI price. Per-user add-on: a second line item, per seat, on top of the plan. Metered credits: a pool that AI actions draw down, bought in blocks.
The model decides what a heavy user costs. Bundled AI costs the same whether one person or five use it. A per-user add-on costs per seat regardless of use. Credits cost per action, so one enthusiastic user can spend the team's pool. Match the model to how your team will actually use the features, as with payment fees on a free accounting plan in how to compare small business accounting software pricing.
Slack: bundled by tier, no add-on price published
Slack's pricing page lists Basic AI features on Free and Pro, Advanced AI on Business+, and Enterprise-Grade AI on Enterprise+. No separate AI add-on or price appears. Pro is $7.25 per user per month billed annually or $8.75 monthly; Business+ is $15 or $18; Enterprise+ is $45 annual.
The practical AI price on Slack is therefore the gap between tiers: $7.75 per user per month, annual, from Pro to Business+. Editorial calculation for five users: $36.25 a month on Pro, $75 on Business+, so Advanced AI costs the team $38.75 a month, bundled with everything else Business+ adds.
One metered element does appear. The FAQ mentions Flex Credits, bought through Salesforce, for higher Slackbot message limits on Business+ invoice plans, with no price stated. For most small teams, Slack's AI is a tier decision, not a line item, unlike the per-resolution AI charges in how to read a help desk pricing page.

ClickUp: a per-user add-on and a credit pool at the same time
ClickUp's pricing page lists two AI add-ons: Brain AI at $9 per user per month and Everything AI at $28 per user per month, with a save up to 20% note on yearly billing. It also sells AI Super Credits at $10 per 10,000 credits, and lists 500 AI credits per workspace on the free plan.
Editorial calculation for five users on ClickUp Unlimited at $7 per user per month yearly, the first of the two price sets the page displayed on October 10, 2026: $35 a month for the plan. Adding Brain AI makes it $80; adding Everything AI makes it $175. The AI line is between 1.3 and 4 times the plan itself.
Because the page showed two inconsistent price tables when read, confirm the plan price in checkout before adding AI. The base plan question is covered in more detail for the whole category in how to read a help desk pricing page, where the AI line follows the same pattern.
Zoom: a separate AI seat with a credit allowance inside it
Zoom's AI pricing page presents ZoomMate as its own plan card: $20 per user per month billed monthly or $16.67 billed annually, including 2,200 AI credits per user per month. The page says AI actions and agentic capabilities consume AI credits, and lists unlimited AI note-taking and meeting summaries inside the seat.
Workplace Basic, the free tier, includes limited ZoomMate features: 20 AI queries a month, meeting summaries for 3 hosted meetings, 3 AI note-taking uses, 10 workflow runs, and no AI credits. The page does not state which ZoomMate features come at no extra cost with paid Workplace plans above Basic.
Editorial calculation for five users on annual billing: 5 x $16.67 = $83.35 a month for ZoomMate alone, on top of whatever Workplace plan the team already pays for. That is the most expensive AI line of the four at the published rates, and the only one with a per-user credit cap stated on the page.

Notion: included on Business, trial-only below it, credits for agents
Notion's pricing page lists Free and Plus with a Trial of Notion AI and limited trial access to Notion Agent, meeting notes and research mode. Business, at $20 per member per month, includes Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search. Enterprise adds zero data retention with LLM providers.
Custom Agents are metered: free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. The comparison table marks two plan columns as requiring Notion credits, but the page text does not make clear which plans those are. Treat agent usage on lower tiers as a question for the help center.
The effective AI price on Notion is therefore the step from Plus at $10 to Business at $20: $10 per member per month, or $50 a month for five, by editorial calculation. Plus buys a trial, not the feature; Business buys the feature, with agents metered separately.
Put the four on one line for a five-person team
Editorial calculation of the monthly AI cost above the entry paid plan, five users, annual billing where published, list prices as of October 10, 2026:
- Slack: $38.75 to move five users from Pro to Business+ for Advanced AI; no add-on sold separately
- Notion: $50 to move five members from Plus to Business for the included agent; custom agents $10 per 1,000 credits on top
- ClickUp: $45 for Brain AI or $140 for Everything AI on top of any plan, plus $10 per 10,000 Super Credits if the pool runs out
- Zoom: $83.35 for five ZoomMate seats on annual billing, each with 2,200 credits a month, on top of the Workplace plan
Bundled models, Slack and Notion, charge the same whether AI is used daily or never, and bring other features with the tier. Add-on and credit models, ClickUp and Zoom, let a team buy AI for two people and not five, but a credit pool can run dry mid-month. The tier-versus-seat question also decides where SSO lands in how to compare password manager pricing for a small team.
A team with one or two heavy AI users is better served by per-user add-ons it can assign selectively. A team where everyone will use meeting summaries is better served by a bundle. The same seat-assignment logic applies to support tools, as set out in what per-agent pricing means when agents are part-time.
Bottom line
Name the model first: bundled, per-user or credits. Then price AI for your real head count and your real usage. For five people, the published AI step ranges from $38.75 a month on Slack to $140 a month for ClickUp's Everything AI, as of October 10, 2026, before any credit top-ups.
Two pages leave gaps. Zoom does not say what paid Workplace plans include without ZoomMate, and Notion does not say which plans need credits for agents. Where a page is silent, the fair assumption is that the feature costs extra, as with fair-use limits in what unlimited calling really means in business phone plans.
